About NSB
New Smyrna Beach, known locally as NSB, is a charming seaside town famous for its miles of pristine white sandy beaches, vibrant arts scene, and historic architecture. The area perfectly blends old-world charm with modern amenities, making it a unique destination. With a rich historical tapestry that extends back to the pre-colonization era, NSB’s land was originally inhabited by the Timucua Indians, who left behind significant archaeological sites such as Turtle Mound. The arrival of Spanish explorers led by Juan Ponce de LeĂ³n in 1513 marked a significant transformation characterized by conflict and adaptation.
Officially founded in 1768 by Dr. Andrew Turnbull with support from the British Crown, the New Smyrna colony aimed to cultivate various crops. Despite initial infrastructure development, the settlers faced numerous challenges, including droughts, disease, and harsh living conditions, which led to the colony’s abandonment in 1777. The town was named in honor of Turnbull’s wife, Gracia Maria Rubini, from Smyrna, Asia Minor.
Today, the New Smyrna Beach History Museum, located in the historic Canal Street district, plays a pivotal role in preserving this multifaceted history, offering visitors deep insights into the area’s cultural heritage. The museum and other historical landmarks provide rich narratives of survival, innovation, and community spirit.
Canal Street Gallery Walk
Kicking off the month is the Canal Street Gallery Walk, held on the first Saturday from 10 AM to 7 PM. If you’re an art lover, this is one of the must-attend New Smyrna Beach events. Artists from far and wide gather to display their masterpieces, giving visitors a chance to explore local and international artworks. What makes this event special is that it’s not just confined to galleries; you’ll also find pop-up art shows, interactive demonstrations, and open studio sessions. In addition to the incredible art, the event also features a delightful array of arts, antiques, dining, music, professionals, shopping, and more, making it a vibrant and diverse experience for all who attend.
Flagler Avenue Wine Walk
Every fourth Saturday, the Flagler Avenue Wine Walk offers a unique way to explore one of New Smyrna Beach’s liveliest streets. From 1 PM to 7 PM on dates such as September 28th, October 26th, November 30th, and December 28th, attendees can sample over 100 different wines from around the world, all while strolling through the quaint shops and restaurants of Flagler Avenue. The Wine Walk is a monthly Progressive Wine Tasting event that costs $30 for a tasting passport, which includes 20 tasting tickets, a keepsake wine glass, a map, and a listing of each host location’s wines for the month. During the event, locations offer both one and multi-ticket wines to sample from the 100+ featured wines. Those who want to share their 20 tasting tickets with a friend may purchase an additional wine glass for $5 cash. Notably, Flagler Avenue will NOT be closed for this event, which takes place inside host locations all along the avenue. The Wine Walk is not just about wine; it’s a full sensory experience featuring live music, food tastings, and artisanal vendors.

Classic Cars on Canal
On the second Saturday of each month, car enthusiasts gather for Classic Cars on Canal. From 4 PM to 8 PM, vintage and classic cars line Canal Street, turning it into a vibrant outdoor auto show. This is one of those New Smyrna Beach events that draws visitors of all ages. Onlookers can marvel at beautifully restored vehicles, chat with car owners, and even participate in car-related trivia and games. Members of the East Coast Cruisers Car Club buff up their prize hot rods, coupes, classic Cadillacs, and jaw-dropping Royces, then cruise beneath the palms, parking diagonally and popping open their hoods for eager viewers to admire the polished vintage engines. It’s exemplary Port Orange hospitality, open to all, with free musical entertainment and vendors selling kettle corn, hotdogs, and soda: a spirited slice of Americana and a reason to visit again and again. The City Center Complex is a 50-acre community park that provides convenient spectator and trailer parking and secure, well-maintained restrooms. DJ Weasel will be spinning the tunes, and food vendors will be on hand to satisfy your cravings.
Canal Street Nights
The third Thursday of each month brings Canal Street Nights, a festival-style event that is fun for the whole family. From 5 PM to 9 PM, Canal Street transforms into a bustling hub of activity as the street is closed to enjoy strolling through vendors, dancing to live music, kid-friendly activities, extended business hours, and specialty food vendors. The eclectic mix of local bands, gourmet food trucks offering cuisines from around the world, and local artisans selling handmade crafts creates a family-friendly atmosphere that appeals to visitors and locals alike. It’s the perfect evening to dine, shop, stroll, and fall in love with downtown.
Sip & Stroll at Canal Street
If you find yourself in NSB on the first Saturday of the month, make sure to check out Sip & Stroll at Canal Street. From 1 PM to 6 PM, this event allows you to leisurely stroll through Canal Street’s historic district while sipping on curated beverage selections from participating businesses. Tickets are $23.47 and include your self-guided passport, drink tickets, wristband, and souvenir glass. Enjoy refreshing craft beer and wine from our 13 participating locations. Returning participants with their souvenir glass enjoy $2 off their ticket, but it must be purchased in person. It’s a wonderful way to explore local shops, art galleries, and eateries at your own pace.
